Zodiac Postage Stamp ( Year of the Dragon )     The  year of the Dragon is fifth in the zodiac cycle, haveing the Dragon or the Serpant as a symbol. Tha Dragon represents virtue and sanctity. However, thoes who view the Dragon as representative of evil or sa a mysterious or nature power, take it to be a medium of destruction.The perception of the Dragon differs in different areas on earth according to the popular imagination of each country.     The Brahmachati Doctrine states that people born in the year of the Dragon are associated with the element of gold; they are male angels and their "kwan" or spirit resides in cotton and articulate, sharp in their conversation, wise and knowledgeable of philosophic principles.

Goodwill Ambassador
 

                  H.R.H. Princess Bajraktiyabha is a daughter of H.R.H. Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongon and H.R.H. Princess Soamsavali and is the first granddaughter of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej and H.M. Queen Sirikit. The Princess was born on 7th December 1978 and was graduated with a Doctor of the Science of Law (J.S.D) from Cornell University, United States of America. Presently H.R.H. the Princess is involving in legal mission Which provides rights protection, legal aids and justice to the people as well as an human rights development.
 
 

                          The Princess has been internationally recognized for her expertise in criminal law and women’s rights promotion in justice system as well as playing an active role in preventing violence against women. In addition, H.R.H. the Princess was appointed as UN Women (formerly UNIFEM) Goodwill Ambassador to end violence against women and was proved unanimously by 40 member countries to be a Chairperson of the 21st   Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (from December 2011 to December 2012). It was the first time that a royal family was entitled to this position which very important in the United Nations.

 His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej has long been doing contributions towards His subjects. Since His coronation till present days, all of his accomplishments aimed to promote a better life and happiness of His subjects. This results in thousands of royal initiatives which work its best to prove the love care of His Majesty towards his subjects.


 

Even year Thailand Post issues a Stamp collection to glorify His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej. And this year will mark the 85th Birthday Anniversary of His Majesty and celebrate this auspicious occasion  with a commemorative stamp issue illustrating His Majesty’s portrail and his royal duties.

Thai Traditional Festival 2011 Postage Stamp : Reflection of Thai way of lift
 


Loy Krathong and Candle Festival (Sukhothai Province)
 

     This festival has been held as far back as Sukhothai period. In the reign of King Ramkhamhaeng, it was known as “Jong Parien ceremony” or "Loi Phra Prateep”. There was a mention in the Stone Inscription No.1 that this was the largest festival in Sukhothai city, which led to a belief that this must be the same festival as Loi Krathong.
 
The Festival of illuminated Boat Procession (Nakhon Phanom Province)
 
      The Festival of illuminated Boat Procession or locally known as Lai Rua Fai is an important festival held by the northeasterners to celebrate the end of Buddhist lent on the 15th vexing moon night or the 1st waning moon night of the 11th lunar month of each year. “Rua Fai” is a boat made from banana trunks or bamboos of 5-6 wah tied together. Sweets and any items people want to donate are placed in the boat. The boat exterior is decorated with flowers, incense sticks, candles, lamps and torches to be lighted before the boat is released into a canal or river. This is the origin of the name “Lai Rua Fai”
 
Yi Peng Festival (Chiang Mai Province)
 
        This stamp depicts the 12th Lunar Month Full Moon Festival of Lanna Thai (the northern region) which is known as Yi-Peng. On the day of Yi Peng, people decorated Buddhist temples and their houses with banana trees, sugar cane, coconut fronds, Tung flowers and Chor Prateep. Various styles of paper lamps called Krom Yi-Peng are hoisted high as offerings to the Lord Buddha. Small bowl lamps are lighted as offerings to the Three Gems of Buddhism while floating paper lamps are lighted and released into the sky as offerings to Phra Ketkaew Chulamanee in heaven
 
Loi Krathong Sai (Tak Province)
 
 
       Tak Province organizes Loi Krathong Sai festival on the full moon of the 12th  lunar month of each year, Latex of Yang trees is mixed with wood chips, formed into small balls and placed at the bottom of halved coconut shells. On the nights of the festival the latex balls are lighted and floated in the Ping River at regular intervals, forming long rows of flickering lights above the water. These coconut shells (Kratong) will eventually flow out of the audiences sight. It is believed that participants and spectators of this festival will be blessed with what they wished for during the festival.

On the occasion of the 111th birthday anniversary of H.R.H. Princess Sri Nagaindra the Princess Mother 21st October 2011, Thailand Post has issued a postage stamp in her honor. This stamp was modeled on a photograph of the Princess Mother in a white shirt with red embroidered flowers pattern. Her radiant smile in this photograph signifies the compassion that H.R.H. the Princess Mother had aways shown towards her people. The photograph was provided by Khunying Puangroi Diskul Na Ayutthaya from Mae Fah Luang Foundation, the Doi Tung Development Project, which was established under the Princess Mothers initiation.
